Cross X 3
Color digital prints, cardboard
Artist Statement
Cross X 3is a book that combines three similar formats. The inspiration for this book was Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Vitruvian Man”. His drawing illustrates the perfect proportions of the human body, combining art and science. It symbolizes the harmony between human anatomy and geometry. I then thought of Jesus’s crucifixion which has Jesus Christ crucified in somewhat of a similar position on the cross with his arms spread across and then thirdly I thought of an airplane and how the wings are arms and the fuselage is the body. So this book combines all three into one piece of book art.
Walls & Flowers
Artist Statement
My one of a kind book entitled, “WALLS & FLOWERS” is an accordion style book that when pulled open all the way measures almost eight feet long.
The concept of the book is color photographic imagery of urban walls on one side and several different varieties of colorful flowers on the other side, very opposite but complementary at the same time.
The wall images are from my mixed media series called, “Wall Works” where I travel to numerous countries and cities such as Rome, Paris, Marseille, Naples, Havana, Berlin, London, New York City and photograph urban walls filled with layer upon layer of graffiti, posters, political slogans, street art, murals and signs. Walls & Flowers comes in a customized cardboard box also covered with colorful photographic imagery of urban walls and flowers. The clasps to close the book box are made of tree twigs.
