Chia-Hui, Luo is a virtual artist residing in Taiwan.
She is currently working on her Ph.D. thesis.

My art was inspired by Antoni Tàpies and Jean Dubuffe’s focus on process and materials. I am fascinated by the way plaster, cloth, and all these rough materials can become mixed media art. In my artworks, I try to present specific things in life through past memories – to reflect my inner self naturally. In the transformation of natural materials, I reveal my angle on reality. Therefore, my artworks have not only a subject but also an object and it is not just an abstract expression, not only focusing on their purely visual aspects but their narrative content or its relationship to the world. My artworks usually appeared as a memory with a beauty of sediment and flake and I think it is a beauty that covers generations with nature, genuine and unpretentious.

The knots, serving as an expression of habits and experiences accumulated in memory, also signal a subtle meaning: seeds of consciousness. As time goes by, memory is awakened by the scenes and surroundings, constantly spreading and increasing. Strings of knots are memories, like a river of time.
