Chia Hui Luo, River on Fire

Mixed Media

Artist Statement

This work aims to address the global environmental and ecological crisis, particularly the “wildfire” crisis resulting from river pollution and ecological destruction. The artist uses yarn materials, dramatically intertwining and weaving healthy, blue threads with red threads—representing pollution, destruction, and fire—to create a visual metaphor of a river set ablaze. The conflict and fusion of blue and red convey the struggle of water bodies under climate change and human impact. The piece seeks to awaken viewers to the urgency of the current ecological crisis, urging them to confront and protect the rivers essential to our survival.
