Artist Statement
Humans are hard wired to seek connection with one another. The invisible force that connects us all is our primal instinct to relate to nature. Yet, as more people live in environments disconnected from natural landscapes and devoid of nature’s sights and sounds- many find themselves out of touch with that which their bodies, hearts and minds yearn. Distanced from this fundamental ability to appreciate and communicate with nature, they are further removed from the real world by a fast-encroaching artificial one in its place, shaped by screens, algorithms and AI models designed for a “civilized society”.
When we seek comfort or inspiration in our lives, and have a relationship with the natural world, we experience a sense of wholeness, a deep connection with life itself. Without this bond, we lose an integral part of our human experience that can aid in fostering love, empathy and appreciation for life.
My art reflects my ongoing search for a deeper understanding and connection with nature where my mind can rest, and my body can feel the Earth speak. My prints seek to capture the essence of nature’s energy, exploring the flow of life forces that course through the woods, waterways and fields of the natural landscape. My imagery emerges through the layering of environmental patterns—fragments of forest detritus, a branch caught in the wind, marsh grasses dancing in the sunlight, a leaf ensnared in a bramble. I am continually moved by this vibrant energy of life.
