Our own Elizabeth “Tilly” Strauss has been honored with a Dutchess County, New York, Executive Legislative Citation for her groundbreaking art project ‘Who is She?’ that brought attention to ten forgotten yet once-famous female artists. This accolade, awarded by Arts Mid-Hudson, recognizes Tilly’s dedication to celebrating and preserving the legacy of women artists who have been overlooked by history.
The award celebrates a series of monthly biographical zines paired with an introductory IAGI YouTube presentation that brought to light the stories of ten remarkable women whose contributions to art had been largely forgotten. This project shed light on their artistic achievements and explored how they were ‘erased” from history, sparking renewed interest in their contributions to the art world.
“I am deeply honored to receive this legislative citation,” said Tilly Strauss. “It is a testament to the importance of recognizing and preserving the stories of women artists who have been overlooked. I am also thrilled to embark on my next project, which will highlight the pivotal roles played by women in the establishment of art institutions.”
