It’s All About The River 2

  • Reclaimed/rescued plexiglass, clear and dyed resins, ink and paint, all suitable for outdoor display.
  • I would like the work to hang from the middle of the bars spanning 3 bars if possible. Each bar will have 1-5 panels. Panels are thin, 1/8th to 1/4’ thick. Panels will range in size between 5″ to 50” in width. I will need the height and width of the actual metal bars to give more accurate sizes and ensure the work will hang above heads without risk to visitors. No panel will weigh more than 30lbs. I can work smaller if this weight is too heavy.
  • Artwork will hang from fishing line or airline cabling from the greenhouse framework overhead. This will allow the work to move, swing and twist with the wind. There shouldn’t be any maintenance.

My art installation for the old greenhouse at Lyndhurst would address the Hudson River ecology and sustainability/reclamation. I plan to create site specific new work that will hang from the framework of the greenhouse in a small section. It will be created with salvaged end cuts of plexiglass left over from the production of covid shields for businesses in the Hudson Valley. This installation will incorporate materials that once were destined for the dump into artwork with intention and beauty that will highlight threatened and thriving species in the Hudson River ecosystem.

I grew up in Palm Springs, California and practically lived in the swimming pool. As a kid, I sported a permanent green tint to my hair from the chlorinated water and spent probably too many hours spacing out over the weird patterns the sun created in the swimming pool. Little did I know that those undulating patterns would someday become such an important aspect of my life as a visual artist.

I am an experimenter at heart. I’ve worked primarily with resins and water concepts for the last 15 years jumping between drawing, painting and sculpture. I’ve always been drawn to non-traditional, industrial materials, even back in college. Exploring these outsider materials constantly takes my art into new directions because experimentation always brings up new ideas. For me, the best part of creating is the chase of a new idea from beginning to final presentation where often I end up inventing processes and forms no one else does. The resulting work can be deceptively simple but is often very intricate and involved. I like the contrast in my work between the quiet, the bold and the ethereal. It is this realm of the ethereal that I try to dive into deeper and deeper.

I exhibit nationally and internationally in galleries, universities, museums and public spaces. A few examples include the American Embassy Turkey, University Art Museum’s permanent collection at SW Minnesota State, The Dorsky Museum SUNY, The Tabernacle MoMA Wales, The New Museum Ideas City Festival Arts Brookfield, The Children’s Hospitals Cincinnati and Boston, the Solarium on RCCL’s Ship “Harmony of the Seas”, the Lobby of the Marriott Waikiki, The Whitney Los Gatos, Tria Gallery NYC and George Billis Gallery. I was also a Featured Artist in the Ty Marshall film, “NEW SCHOOL: A Hudson Valley Artists Profile” 13 of the Most Prominent Hudson Valley Artists.
