Marcy B. Freedman
Do Something: An Interactive Sculpture
(A prop for a performance)

  • Metal stand, pulley mechanism, plastic, inflatable globe
  • 5.5 feet tall and 3 feet wide.   Weight:  Approximately 10 lbs.
  • This sculpture will be on view for a very brief time, as it is a “prop” for a performance by the artist, who will place the sculpture on the platform in front of the Bowling Alley Building.  It will be there ONLY for the duration of her performance, which will take place on the porch of the Bowling Alley Building.

This sculpture is a PROP to accompany the artist’s interactive performance.  The performance is called What are we willing to do to save the planet?”  Freedman will be seated on the porch of the Bowling Alley Building, where she will chat with visitors about the many challenges we face as climate change puts us on a collision course with global disaster.   For decades, we have known about the life-style changes that individuals can make to reduce our carbon footprints and to live in a more sustainable manner.  Are we actually following these guidelines?  Are we casting votes to elect those politicians who will strive to protect our environment? These are the topics Freedman will discuss with participants.  She will also invite members of the public to use the pulley system of the sculpture to RAISE THE GLOBE – a metaphorical action that suggests how each individual can play a role in saving our planet.

Marcy B. Freedman is an artist and art historian who lives and works in Westchester County, NY. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, her first master’s degree (in Renaissance studies) from the University of Michigan, and her second master’s degree (in Modern Art) from Princeton University.

As a visual artist, Freedman has explored a variety of artistic media – from painting, drawing, photography, and small sculpture to digital collage, video, and performance art.  Her works have been shown in more than 400 exhibitions around the country. She has presented solo performances in New York City and dozens of places in the Hudson Valley.
