Soft Passage
- Pine with a marine varnish
- 32.75” x 32.75” x 59.5” (h), approx. 75 lbs.
- Prior to attaching “SOFT PASSAGE” to its platform base with galvanized screws and deck screws (for the “melting” sections), the platform’s “lid” is removed and bricks are inserted to weigh down the entire structure.
- Holes in the bottom of the platform allow for drainage. The entire structure is finished inside and out with marine varnish. Aside from brushing off falling leaves, no other maintenance is required.
“SOFT PASSAGE” is a work to be created from laminated and carved pine and finished with a moisture proof marine varnish. The work is essentially a small door and frame that appears to be “melting” over its three tiered platform.
While my work is usually “shape driven,” the forms that evolve in the planning stages often have intriguing metaphorically connotations that reflect upon our threatened environment: the “melting” shapes of “SOFT PASSAGE” suggests global warming.
