This large-scale rounded bronze form is earthbound, conveying the heavy gravity of stone; the expressions and gestures transcend that weight with a warmth and lightness of being. This piece has a universal spirit of harmony and optimism, which transcends culture, gender and age. It invites us to touch and play and reminds us of that peaceful place within- calm, open, aware. Holding the quiet power of the natural world, it grounds us within our ever-changing environment.
Joy Brown has exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe, Japan, and China. Her figures and three-dimensional wall installations are represented in prominent private and public collections, displayed in parks, sculpture gardens, and urban public spaces around the world. Joy’s larger-than-life bronze figures have been widely shown in China for the past thirteen years. In the United States, a solo exhibition up Broadway, NY in 2017-2018 and at The Mount in Lenox, Mass and Garment District NYC in 2023. In 1998, she co-founded Still Mountain Center, a nonprofit organization that fosters artistic exchange between East and West, bringing people together in the arts.
