Healing Leaves Art Installation
- Print on canvas
- 47in by 60in each
- Fourteen paintings of leaves will be printed on canvas in the size of 60 inches by 47 inches to fit each section of the fence. Prints of the leaves and the stencils will be attached to the fence by means of eyelets installed in each piece and string. It will only be necessary to adjust the strings if they become loose.
These images come from my original series of paintings entitled Healing Leaves: The Myth of Orisha Ossanhe, (which received a grant from the Queens Arts Fund, 2023). Four prints of Healing Leaves will be cut from the canvas, thus creating 4 stencils. Prints of the leaves and the stencils will be attached to the fence by means of eyelets installed in each piece and string. In this way, each panel will have a “crisp” appearance and will not sag (see attached image). The canvas will be covered with varnish to make it weather and sun resistant, as the exposure will last for about six months.
The beauty is seeing the actual leaves of Lyndhurst Garden through these stencils of four leaves next to the painted leaves: A colorful dialogue between art and nature.
I was born in Brazil to Brazilian and Spanish parents. Since 2014, I have been living and working as an artist in NYC. I am a self-taught artist, a biologist, a Ph.D. in Genetics, and an educator and researcher in the sacred language of nature. My research and artwork are a combination of my artistic soul and scientific mind with my free spirit intertwining the two. The enchantment of nature, whether through science or through spiritual traditions based on nature, has been the source of inspiration for my creations.
Over the past 15 years, I have participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions. Most recently the series Urban Orishas was shown at ArtOnLink all over NYC. In 2019, my series Rebirth was awarded by Queens Council on the Art, and the series Healing Leaves was awarded by Queens Fond on the Art /2023.
