Artist Statement
I created this digital accordion book of 6 Visual Poems, “Diamond Ziggurat with Color Reflections #1-6” by first drawing the twelve step ziggurat matrix on graph paper. It was then transferred to my computer. For the reflected effect, the triangle was inverted, flipped over, making the diamond shape. I then composed the poems in pencil on graph paper and entered the words into the matrix on the computer and filled in the black squares. In the lower part of the triangle I added the color blocks. This idea came from my interest in the ziggurats in ancient art history of the near east, Egypt, and Central America. These architectural structures coupled with liking to look at the pattern of crossword puzzles, and a love of playing scrabble sparked the idea to make these poems.
