“Blues Suspension” made use of sections of tree bark I have in my studio. The rough bark creates an organic texture that I contrast to human-made grids and meshes. I also incorporate hand-drawn elements. The title of this piece emerged as the painting developed. I almost always work with music in my surroundings so the reference is a nod to musical terminology. The blue form is literally suspended, waiting for resolution as a chord waits in music.
