“Barking Up the Right Tree” also uses the shapes of bark and hand drawn elements. The juxtaposition of these organic bark textures with rigid industrial grids is something I use a lot in my frottage work. I find it is a metaphor for our current environmental dilemma—human coexistence with the natural world. The imagery of “Barking” suggests a vertical climb and I couldn’t get this title out of my mind as I felt the humor of the phrase, a pun as we work towards more environmental security.
