This book was designed after my trip to Peru last fall, 2025. I was especially enamored of the site outside of Cusco called Sacsayhuaman. There were numerous walls, many of them built by the Incas with huge rounded and carved rectangular stones that were built and carried to the site with manpower and ropes starting in 1350.These cyclopean blocks of limestone were fit together very carefully and with great skill. I was able to draw my first drawing at the site, and the other two were drawn from photos that I took there. I collaged the cover and back page with cut paper ( stone shapes) painted grey.

I received several small shells in the mail from my cousin. She had visited
Sanibel Island and brought back various shells and sent a few to me as a gift. My
art practice sometimes involves building ceramic shells, enlarging them and using
them as creative forms for my work. I also draw them and pair them together. I
drew each shell observing each one and choosing the most interesting angle. I
realized that I had abstracted the shells’ shapes and they appeared to look
like landscapes. In this way I addressed the earth and what is one of the earth’s
treasures. I drew all the shells and collected them and sewed them into a book
marking this particular art period.
