Artist Statement
The artist book CORAL by Karen LaFleur captures a series of coral species in text, drawn images, and augmented reality videos that comes alive via the App. ARTIVIVE. Just download the ARTIVIVE App onto your mobile phone or tablet. Open the ARTIVIVE application on your device and place the screen over an image in the book and the image will play a short video. Karen LaFleur created this multi-layer narrative from analog hand-drawn images of a growing coral reel to imaginary coral artwork with current AR technology to bring attention to the fascinating lives of coral and their importance in maintaining the health of our oceans.
