If you have a Gmail account already\, you can log in to YouTube with that information. We look forward to connecting with you live. \n\n\n\nPlease refresh your YouTube page if you enter before 6:00 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe fantastic lives of 10 women artists\n\n\n\nLast names are challenging early on\, because many women artists changed their last names as they married\, switching their father’s names for their husband’s\, and some took on their own invented names. It complicates matters. Famous in their lifetimes\, working against constant prejudice\, these women defied the odds and then were erased from history. Some even had their signatures painted over posthumously by male artists! These women are just a teeny handful of the thousands of successful and driven artists that have been ignored or forgotten by mainstream history gatekeepers. Let’s get to know them. We will talk about the challenges\, the survival techniques\, and recognize the allies that helped these women make art in their lifetime.   \n\n\n\nPresented by Tilly Strauss\n\n\n\nEach month Tilly Strauss (artist and teacher) will present a short slide show about a particular artist through the lens of her research and zine illustrations. Tilly majored in Art History and comes from a family of writers\, curators and artists easily traced back to 1400s Europe. Making small art history zines is a project she has been working on for years. She is not presenting herself as an expert on these women so much as an eager student and she invites the participants to share following the slide show.  \n\n\n\nIncluded in each session will be a list of resources for those curious to dive deeper.

I can say it much better in paint. I can\, though\, describe my process\, which I consider close to that of a jazz musician improvising. I do not hear a symphony in my head and then put it down. Instead\, I build on every stroke I do\, starting with the gesso and building up layer after layer after that. \n\n\n\n\n\nMy surfaces are defined by and reflect the thickness of that build up. For my vocabulary\, I draw heavily on childhood memories\, on many personal experiences throughout the years\, and my travels. Nature continues to be one of my biggest inspirations.” \n\n\n\n“When I make a painting\, I seek to create a little piece of beauty and a refuge from our busy and chaotic lives\, an inspiration to do better and be better in the universe. I see each piece of my work as one step on a continuum\, each painting not precious unto itself but as an ongoing journey.” \n\n\n\n\nEnter studio for live conversation on February 1\, 2023 @ 1:00PM\n\n\n\nView & comment via YouTube on February 1\, 2023 @ 1:00 PM\n\n\n\n\nPlease refresh your YouTube page if you enter before 1:00 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Us!\n\n\n\nWhen: Monthly meetings are held every First Wednesday at 1:00 pm New York time via Zoom. \n\n\n\nWho: Member artists of all disciplines by invitation of the curator.
