As a life long visual storyteller, I bring a feminist, woman-affirming perspective to my art. I offer strong, inventive creations using the themes of self and earth love. I am committed to using my life experience as I lead viewers on intriguing visual journeys. With ten series in my career including two historic photo print series in dragonfly and cactus, in all my art, photography is my original artistic tool. When I learned to use a camera-phone & iPad, my art production shifted while retaining my recognizable layered style. Currently I primarily produce with digital tools.
My artwork is a visual and auditory translation of my female, aging woman, lesbian, life. I integrate what is around me, interpreting and diving deep into its artistic expanse. My primary project began in response to unwelcome oppressive voices in my head about aging. After a lifetime of feminist activism, I was shocked to realize I could be a victim of patriarchal ideas. Over ten years I have used my art tools experimenting with my face, creating self portraits, building the visual photographic and video project “Portrait of a Woman.”
In the pandemic, I amplified my skills learning digital video tools and amplifying my visual communication skills. I expanded my self-portrait project with “Planetary Sisters” using my surgically injured eyes and face for the base photographic layers. Throughout my art career I have used my personal experience to communicate and expand understanding of who we are as humans and as a place to enjoy the wonderful visual universe.
