I am a multimedia artist working in watercolor on paper, oil, and acrylic on canvas, and sculpturally with wire and found materials. My art engages the viewer in the beauty and hidden transformational forces of nature above and below ground, and connects to the issues menacing ecological instability.
Research into the subterranean web of connections has expanded my thinking and creating. My painting process is guided by intuition, spontaneity, and science. I combine dripping and layering of bold brushwork and fine detail. Expressing the inherent energy in this subterranean world, I create vibrantly colored invented spaces where roots weave their way and eccentric microbial structures, insects, animals, and fungi invoke nature’s diversity. My sculpture conveys the essence of birds, insects, and nests referencing multispecies extinction.
I was born and raised in NY, NY. Currently, I divide paint in Brooklyn and Masonville, NY. I have a BA from Swarthmore College where I studied painting with Harriet Shorr, followed by living two years in Paris.
Group exhibitions include notable institutions such as The American Watercolor Society (NY, NY); Exit Art (NY, NY); Governors’ Island (NY, NY); The Mindener Museum (Minden, Germany). My work appeared in the 2020 Ecoartspace catalogue, curated by Eleanor Heartney and in 2021 for the Ecoartspace book, Embodied Forest, curated by Lilian Fraiji. I attended residencies at E_Merge, at Earthdance for Living (Plainfield, MA); The Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT). In 2021 a solo show at The Wisner House Gallery, Summit, NJ. Presently I am exhibiting at Swale House, (Governor’s Island) and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Jamestown, NY.
