Marcy B. Freedman
Mediums: Digital Art, Video, and Performance
I am an artist and an art historian, and I have been working in both realms for decades.
As an art historian, I have taught at the college level, in this country and abroad. I have also curated exhibitions and presented public lectures on a wide, wide variety of topics.
As an artist, I have created paintings and drawings, small sculptures, collages, photographs, videos, and live performances – both interactive and scripted. When the pandemic hit, I immersed myself fully in the world of digital art, creating hundreds of digital collages.
I have also enjoyed the challenges and rewards of working collaboratively with other artists. In the visual realm, I was a founding member of E.Y.E, GeneFree, Cathouse Associates, In-Question, and Thunder & Light. In the literary realm, I collaborated with writers in Word of Mouth. On numerous occasions, I worked with the musicians of Skin Against Metal to present enhance spoken-word performances. Most recently, I organized a performance event that featured poets, dancers, and musicians who had created original works in response to my art!
In all of my work, I try to live up to a motto that I developed years and years ago: To please the eye and tease the brain.
