Karen Fitzgerald

Roundness is fundamental to my visual thinking. The form conveys an essence of interconnection, wholeness and metaphysical purpose. When you look into one of my paintings, you respond to the color, nuance and energy embedded in the piece. I use the gilded ground as a cue; the precious metal indicates something beyond our physical world, something metaphysical.

Karen Fitzgerald’s work is actively exhibited in the United States. She received grants from the Queens Community Arts Fund, the Women’s Studio Workshop, and NYFA Artist Corps. Her work is in many private and public collections. Heavily influenced by poetry, her work delights in the energy of gardens, mysteries and all things invisible.

Media I work in:

I work in 2-dimensions, using oil paint, mica, Venetian plaster. Precious metals such as 23k, 12k gold, and silver. The work is mounted or painted directly on panels, .5′ thick.
