Liliana Washburn, Ascension
Acrylics on Yupo Paper, 24 x 30 inches, $1500.00, New York
Ascension was created during a period of 4 months. While creating the work, I couldn’t understand why I would go back day after day working at it. Initially, I didn’t like the work, but I continued to build on it driven by a force I could not understand. As I placed the last drops of alcohol on the painting the artwork came to life. It felt to me as the last breath. The title “ascension” came to mind. I knew right then that the creation of this painting was the way I found to accept the fact I knew my mother was about to pass. This painting has allowed me to talk with my mother on a new level. It has allowed me to listen to her and understand that she too knew and accepted that her moment of was coming. It has given me peace. For my mother 1940 – 2014
